Phoenix Players Ltd was registered in 1983 as a non-profit making company limited by guarantee.
We mount, on average, a new play every three weeks throughout the year. Our intimate 120-seat auditorium is located in the Professional Centre on Parliament Road. Nairobi is a very cosmopolitan city so our productions vary from comedy to drama, farces to classics, Shakespeare to musicals. We also put on African authored – particularly Kenyan – plays. As we are not funded by government or any external sources, we rely solely on membership subscriptions, box-office tickets and donations for our continued existence. Determined to continue the tradition of repertory theatre in Nairobi – a tradition which has existed for over 45 years – the Phoenix Players stage an average of 15 to 16 plays a year in the intimate 120 seat auditorium. And it is a unique tradition indeed, as no other theatre on the continent presents theatre on a continuous repertory basis. The play programme is varied to appeal to a variety of tastes and while the core of our actors are professional actors of great experience and versatility, casts are often supplemented with the considerable amateur talent available in Nairobi – and we are always on the look out for new faces!
